New BA flights improve access to Spanish holiday villas
British Airways (BA) is launching year-round flights to Barcelona from London City Airport later this month.
The carrier is re-introducing the previously summer only route at the end of March and instead of stopping at the end of the summer season it will continue into the winter and spring 2011.
Services will be operated by BA subsidiary BA City Flyer, which has also confirmed the launch of an additional Saturday morning flight to the Catalan city in May.
BA CityFlyer commercial manager Luke Hayhoe said that Spanish destinations are "proving extremely popular" among Spanish holiday villas tourists and other travellers from the Docklands airport.
"Barcelona has traditionally operated as a summer only destination but there is a big demand from both business and leisure passengers for us to continue through the winter," he commented.
The airline will further expand its presence at London City when it launches flights to Majorca and Ibiza in May, while it also operates services to the capital, Madrid.
Elsewhere, Ryanair will re-launch flights to Barcelona (Girona) and Alicante from Doncaster Sheffield Airport next summer.
