Best Christmas market in Europe? Strasbourg a 'contender'
Strasbourg has one of the very best Christmas markets in Europe, according to a travel writer.
The city is a "deeply satisfying place", noted Gareth Huw Davies in the Mail on Sunday - great news for Britons renting holiday villas in the area over the festive period.
"Strasbourg's historic core is one of the world's urban glories," he commented.
The city's ancient streets, churches and cobbled squares impressed the writer, who pointed out that the fantastic Christmas market runs from November 24th until December 24th in the picturesque cathedral square.
Mr Huw Davies also reported that Strasbourg claims to be France's most bike-friendly city, which may be an added bonus for those staying in holiday villas in the surrounding area.
Strasbourg is not the only French city with an acclaimed Christmas market, as the festive offering in Lille has been named in a top ten list.
Helen Pickles stated in the Daily Telegraph that Brits can be sipping mulled wine and soaking up the atmosphere of Lille's Christmas market within 90 minutes of setting off from London's St Pancras Station.
