Romantic Valentine's breaks: Glamorous Dubrovnik a 'top choice'
Dubrovnik is a top choice for a romantic Valentine's getaway this year, a travel writer has suggested.
The glamorous Croatian city was a regular haunt for Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton in their heyday, reports Annabelle Thorpe in the Observer.
In the centre of the walled town, she states that visitors will find lots of "gorgeous boutiques and unusual jewellery stores", which could be ideal for purchasing those extra special romantic gifts.
Ms Thorpe describes other key attractions in Dubrovnik, including "pretty cafes with flower-filled gardens (should the Mediterranean sun make an appearance) and tiny bars with plenty of private nooks and crannies".
With the availability of some beautiful holiday villas in Croatia to rent through Azure, the writer's comments may be just enough to tempt couples into taking the ultimate romantic getaway this Valentine's Day.
Meanwhile, the hip Croatian beach club of Bonj Les Bains has been named in a list compiled by the Sunday Times showing the top 20 hottest beach resorts for 2010.
