Mijas Villa Holiday Guide
Mijas, on Spain's delightful Costa del Sol, is a wonderful place to stay and is set 430 metres above sea level, ensuring magnificent views from almost everywhere. It does however incorporate a coastal area which has been well developed, but the rugged backdrop of the mountains keeps it stunningly beautiful. Malaga airport is just a 20 minute drive away and Fuengirola, Marbella and Puerto Banus are all within easy reach. Mijas is divided into three areas called Mijas Pueblo, a typical whitewashed Andalusian village, while Las Lagunas and Cala de Mijas are by the coast and have wonderful Blue Flag beaches.
Mijas Pueblo is a must to visit, but go on a clear day as the views are amazing: not just over the Costa del Sol but also Gibraltar, the Atlas Mountains and on to the African coastline. Wander through the cobbled streets, visit beautiful monuments and the Museo de las Torres Vigçías, (the Watch Tower Museum). Enjoy delicious tapas and cold wine or a beer while enjoying the panoramic views. There are many wonderful little shops selling local produce and hand made crafts. Take the family to the Mijas Aqua Park in Las Lagunas for a great day of fun.
The nightlife in Mijas is quiet but delightful, although during the summer Cala de Mijas offers something more lively. It is a relatively upmarket resort which respects its visitors and residents desire for peace and quiet, however there are many wonderful little bars and restaurants which stay open until late. If you want the wilder side of entertainment, then head into either Marbella, Malaga, Fuengirola, Benalmádena or Torremolinos where you will find bars, discos, casinos, theatres and wonderful authentic flamenco performances.
For all the fun that the Costa del Sol can give you while staying in your own peaceful luxury villa, there can be no better place than Mijas.
